Back in the middle of the 20th century, 704 covered the whole state. Then in 1954, part of the state was split off into 919. That lasted for decades. But eventually the numbers started to run out, a problem that accelerated with the dawn of the cellular age. In 1993, Winston-Salem was part of the state that got swept into a 910 area code. And th
