Sloths spend most of their time hanging upside down in the treetops of Central and South America. Their long limbs and curved claws help them grip tightly onto branches. Sloths have slow metabolisms and need to be efficient with their energy use, which is why they tend to move slowly. Although you may have heard sloths be called two-toed and three-toed sloths however this is actually not anatomically correct. As both sloths possess three ‘toes’ on their hind limbs and the difference actually lies in their ‘fingers’. Therefore three-fingered and two-fingered is more analogically correct.
